The Hollow Men
Father Emanuel Ruiz
Pastor at St. Patrick's Catholic Church
The leader of a small, venerable church in Northwest Portland, Father Ruiz is a well-known figure among the city’s downtrodden. He very publicly uses the church’s (limited) funds and influence to host food and clothing drives for the homeless, and spends most of his time aiding the local poor.
Emanuel is an aging hispanic man, in his late fifties or early sixties. He is soft-spoken and gentle in his mannerisms, but becomes fiery and vigorous when discussing the plight of the underprivileged in general, and in the Portland community in particular. He dresses somewhat informally for the priest of a respected catholic church, eschewing the black-and-collar unless he’s giving a sermon, preferring more practical clothing.
